Jedi Outcast
Preface: Most of his original maps were released through PCGameMods, which is no longer running. Thus, a large portion of his work is no longer availiable, except through descriptions on his home site at Firehawk Productions. Where noted, availiable maps can be found at JK3Files.
Originally mapping under the name of Darth Malice, Shadriss first picked up JO Radiant in 2001, shortly after Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast was released. After a short two weeks of experimentation and learning the basics of the mapping program, he turned out his first map the Triarena. It was a classic 'first map' with all kinds of errors and problems.
Shortly after, he developed and released "Rebel HQ: Dantooine".
At about the same time he released Dantooine, he requested permission from LivingDeadJedi to completely overhaul his popular Duel of the Fates MP map for Base JO. After recieving it, Darth Malice renamed himself to Shadriss and began the rebuild. After a six month build period, partially interupted by a home move, Duel of the Fates V 2 was released as a co-mapping project with Whiteshadow. It was acclaimed as the best version of DOTF to date.
Following DOTF2, he created and released "Rogue Commando Headquarters", a clan HQ map for the Rogue Commandos. As can be expected it was hardly noticed or used except for the clan involved.
At this point, Shadriss became briefly interested in the RPG community within JO, and as a result of a request for more of those map types, he developed and released "RPG: Commenor", which, while it had varied and diverse architectural styles and decent gameplay (layout wise), had it's own problems in the area of memory usage, primarily attributed to the large number of textures used in it's creation. A FFA version of the same map was released shortly after. Roughly a year after the release of the map (once Jedi Academy had been released), an unauthorized patch for this map enabled it for play in JA. After testing it himself, he made it retroactively official.
His final Jedi Outcast map was the result of a brainstorm while in a technical school classroom. The "Quantum Phase Generator" was designed, built, and released in a period of a week. The textures were deemed somewhat cartoonish, and the elevated platforms not big enough for a meaningful saber duel, but the overall design was a good one... just not large enough in scale.
Jedi Academy Single Player
From the middle of the JO mapping days, Shadriss had had an eye on trying his hand at Single Player mapping. His SP project, entitled "Star Wars: Deception" was originally began as a Jedi Outcast project. A Beta of the first level was released early on, and then shortly afterwards, Jedi Academy released.
Taking advantage of the engine updates, Shadriss converted the project to JA, and released the first level to general acclaim. After a year, he returned to the project and released Maps 2 and 3, ending the first episode of the mod. General reviews from both JK3files and Map-Review gave the map high praise, and there is still a general clamour for the development and release of the second episode. To this point, Shadriss has not indicated this will be forthcoming anytime soon.
Deception can be downloaded from JK3 Files.
Jedi Academy Multiplayer
Shadriss opened his JA maps with a recreation of a scene from the cult film "Kill Bill Vol. 1", specifically, the House of Blue Leaves. Although it had a number of small inaccuracies that were deliberately introduced for playability reasons, it was regarded as the most accurate rendition of that particular location. On numberous occasions it was requested for use as part of Kill Bill mods, none of which Shadriss gave permission for due to lack of any real planning on the mods part.
Many of his following JA maps were created for Map-Review or other forum Mapping contests. The first of these was the "Semele Lightsaber Dojo", created for a Geometry Competition, in which the mappers were limited both in the overall size of the map and in the number of textures that could be used (in this case, 10.) Although it did not place at the top, it made a solid entry.
The next was a gameplay competition, requireing maps that were designed for a small to medium FFA game. The result was the "MFF Shadowdancer", his rendition of the interior of the mythical (even for Star Wars) Majestic Class fast frigate. It featured a TIE Advanced docking bay with facilities for six fighters, a briefing room at one end, and a flight control station and bridge on the other, in addition to an observation deck on the second floor. It took first place in this competition.
The third competition map was a texture creation challenge, in which the main requirement was that all textures be custom created for the map. After a few false starts, Shadriss drew inspiration from a picture of an old cathedral a friend showed him vias MSN. Eight hours later, the basic shape for what became "Chamber of the Immortal" was complete, needing only the texture work and a few minor tweaks to be done for completion. "Immortal" also walked away with first place in the competition.
MovieBattles II
Shadriss' involvement with MB2 came due to a request on the Map-Craft forums for a recreation of the Star Forge Observation Deck. After he'd gotten well into development, MaceCrusherMadanusus brought this map to the attention of the MB2 Community, where a similar request had already been made. After examining the mod itself and playing it for a short time, Shadriss agreed to release it as a MB2 map as well.
During the development of the map, he was invited to join the MB2 Development team. He accepted, and the map was made an "Offical" map release of the mod. MB2_duel_starforge was released with MB2 RC1.
His current main project is MB2_Borleias, set to release at some point after RC2's release.
The Real World
Brian Goodrich is a member of the United States Navy, serving as a Sonar Technician (1st Class) in the Submarine Fleet. During his eleven years of service (at the time of this writing), he has served on the USS MICHIGAN (SSBN-727 Blue), the USS MONTPELIER (SSN-765), various training commands, and the Intermediate Maintainance Facility Pacific Northwest. He hopes to soon be stationed on the USS ALASKA (SSBN-732), sometime in the next six to seven months.
He is married, and has a son and two daughters... all of which constantly interupt his ability to map for any long length of time.
