Damage reduction
In general, damage reduction refers to the amount of damage Jedi(or Sith) can absorb via holding alternate-fire (Block). However, there are a few other classes that have damage reduction, most notably the Super Battle Droid.
Saberist Damage Reduction
By blocking, the saberist (that is, Jedi/Sith) gains instant damage reduction, even when knocked down. The damage reduction only applies to "small-arms" and weaker explosives, and their damage is reduced by 50%.
Taking damage causes very high amounts of force drain, and damage reduction is no longer active once the saberist's force pool reaches 5 points or less.
Countering Damage Reduction
While Jedi and Sith can be killed by standard weapons with enough shots, these weapons completely bypass the initial damage reduction, making them very effective against saberists.
These weapons are:
- A280 Blaster Rifle/DLT-20
- T-21 Light Repeating Blaster
- EE-3 Carbine Rifle (Sniper mode only)
- Projectile Rifle
- DXR-6 Disruptor Rifle
- Frag Grenade (Primary only)
- Rockets of any kind.
- Pulse Grenade (Electrical damage penetrates damage reduction)
- Thermal Detonator
Other kinds of Damage Reduction
- Wookiees have natural damage reduction on their Head and Chest hitboxes.
