MovieBattles II is now available on Desura!
Friday, February 5, 2010
Desura is a software distribution platform (much like Steam) from the makers of ModDB.

It allows for one-click installation of MB and other mods, and will automatically keep you up to date with the latest releases. Desura will also make their achievements API and other cloud data storage available for mods. We might add some optional integration in the future.

Desura is still in limited beta currently, but they aim to go public in late-March/early-April.

We plan to continue our zip file releases, but we will encourage Windows users to switch to Desura, as distribution through them will be easier on all of us.

In case you were wondering, I've also been contacting Steam at regular intervals ever since JKA got released there. I've never gotten a response. I would jump through giant rings of fire to get on Steam, but I can't if they won't even talk to us.

RC3 P4 and SAC Released
Monday, October 12, 2009
As has been said before, we've been working on a patch for the current build. We decided to do a patch because version 0 still feels slightly distant since some further refinement is needed. Instead of the patch simply being a few bugfixes and balancing, we decided to throw in some additional flavour.

Soldier will be receiving concussion grenades. Throw it like any normal grenade, but the longer you hold it in your hand, the shorter the fuse will be. Careful, as they might explode in your hand! The explosion isn't as powerful as a regular frag grenade and as a Jedi or Sith you can shrug off some of the damage by blocking. You can have a maximum of two per life and they'll cost 15 points each.

ARCs now can become even more acrobatic. With dexterity 3 you will be able to wallrun and do a few flips off walls. This is extremely handy when used with dual pistols since you can do some cool surprising flip attacks out of cover and into the enemy's face.

Saberfights are now more clear and controllable. The ability of perfect blocking is again a lot easier. Perfect blocking means when you move your saber to the enemy's attack and block it. The bonus for this is 0 bp loss. This will bring some more skill elements back in to the duels. Manual blocking will have a boosted perfect block range.

The new Droideka is peeking out it's head. For now it's just the new model for added sex appeal, but I think it's safe to say you should be expecting some pretty fun additions in v1.

A few maps have also received some attention. Here is a video of what has been done to Enclave.

Here is the changelog.

The Simple Anti-Cheat (SAC) will not be released together with RC3 P4. However, it will be available as an optional download. You will need it to join any SAC secured server.

We hope this will ease the wait for v0 a bit

Mac Support Poll
Wednesday, August 26, 2009
Website statistics suggest that many of you are running Mac OS X. I'd like to know whether native Mac support is a must for you guys.

Note that if you have the Mac version, you only need 4 small files from the Windows version to make your existing copy work on Windows. We can't legally redistribute those files, though.

In other news, we'll probably have proper Wine support soon. Wine is a support layer that allows some Windows applications (including JKA) to run natively on other platforms, like Mac and Linux.

This means that you could run the Windows version of MB on your Mac natively after installing Wine and those 4 files.
