There are 2 distinctive forms of combat, Dueling and what we call Movie Battles. Both have undergone changes, so we greatly suggest reading upon the basics of both.

Movie Battles Gametype

A culmination of various other types of combat possibilities. The main difference between this form and the above(s) is that these are on a grand, team scale. This is where the true nature of Movie Battles shines. Coming with various new objectives, classes and situations that have never been seen before in Jedi Academy. Using the Progressive Item/Weapons System, rounds and the renewed Sabering System for hectic fast-paced combat.

It is team-based and every class is available here, of course depending on which side you reside with. The objectives are map-dependent, but they all cater teamwork to complete. This mode is a rework of the Siege mode available in Jedi Academy, altered for allowing new types of objectives. Those maps only work within this mod. Time is an issue and depending on what your mission briefing says, it will either work in your favor or against you.
Combat in Movie Battles mode offers diverse objectives which usually belong to one or several of the following categories:

- Assassination
The main objective in this form of combat is to assassinate your target(s). This can be a VIP, a known Star Wars character, a random NPC or even a special character from the opposing team. An example of this type of objective is the "Assault on Jabba the Hutt" map where the Rebellion has to assassinate the notorious crimelord before he escapes.
- Delivery
The objective is to deliver a special item to a certain location, either without dieing, losing a certain numbers of players or even within a certain time-limit. A great example of this is provided by the "Delivery at Cloud City" map. There the objective is to deliver the (in carbonite) frozen Han Solo to either the Millenium Falcon (if you side with the Bespin Rebellion) or the Slave I (if you are part of the Imperial Forces). Team work is a requirement for passing this objective, as Han is very slow to push around.
- Assault
One of the most basic tactics in warfare, assaulting the enemy's stronghold as fast, organized and swift as possible before they can react to it. These battlegrounds are a tribute to the old gametype of Team Free For All, which was heavily played before the arrival of Siege. Your only objective back then was to make it out alive and kill everything that was not on your side. Now we are bringing back this type of battle. Troopers, move out!
- Hostage
Depending on the side you have chosen, you are either supposed to keep hostages under your control, save them from the enemy, capture a certain NPC or even take a certan player of the other team hostage. Time can be of importance in any of those situations, so read your briefing carefully. As a last note, remember whether you need to free/hold all hostages or only a certain number of them and whether killing them is allowed. It may even happen that the target you have to save gets taken down right in front of you or that you get punished for letting that happen.
- Detonation
The destruction of a certain base or construction by use of detonation charges. A certain number of charges have to be set and activated to accomplish this goal. It might be necessary that a certain player or a NPC/VIP on your team places the bomb(s). Time can also play a big role, be aware of that. For the opposing team, you will either have to deactivate the charges, delay the enemy team at reaching this goal or just stop them all together.

These objectives can come on a stand-alone basis, i.e. a single battleground is devoted to a single type of objective. It is also possible that you find yourself in a Assassination-mission that turns out to be a Hostage-rescue finally ending in Detonation. This is all very much possible and depends on your battleground.

Command Center will keep you informed and update this list as more battles are fought.

Gameplay Modes Within Movie Battles Gametype

The Movie Battles gametype has three different gameplay modes:

- Open Mode:
This gamemode has the least restrictions, but is also the least "movie-realistic". There is no limit to how many players can play a certain class, and usually all suported classes and models should be available (dependant upon individual server settings). Open mode has a point progression system which allows you to upgrade your abilities as you play.
- Semi-Authentic Mode:
This mode is similar to open mode, but certain standard classes and models will be disabled to try and recreate the "feel" of the current map.
- Authentic Mode:
This mode is very much different to both Open and Semi-Authentic modes. Not only are classes and models limited to match the current map, but also certain classes only allow a max number of players at any one time. If you want to play the class, but there are no spare slots, you will be put in a queue, and forced to play a different class until a slot is available to play the limited class. Also, class setups are fixed from the start of play. There is no point progression system avaliable in Authentic mode.

Dueling

In the most recent MovieBattles II builds(B19 and up), the traditional BaseJKA dueling mode has been replaced in favour of a Full Authentic mode of dueling, recreating well-known duels in the Star Wars universe, where you take control of a specific character involved in the duel, in the same place and time that the original duel occurred, and try to change history by defeating your opponent(s). Duels can have any number of participants, but are usually restricted to 1 vs 1, although there are a few instances of 3 vs 3 or 4 vs 1, or however many characters are needed to reenact the duel as it was meant to be.
